The original of this distinguished dinner service was made in China for the East India Company during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor (1736-1795). It was a choice of Nelson Rockefeller, former Vice President of the United States, for the collection he produced with Mildred Mottahdeh in 1976. Glowing against a starry sky of cobalt blue are golden butterflies signifying happiness. It became the personal dinner service of President Ronald and Nancy Reagan while in the White House. What more auspicious setting for a happy meal!
